Sarah E. Coon, Research Coordinator for the Governor’s Commission on Training America’s Teachers, is a graduate student in public policy at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

She is a former Coro Fellow with the Coro Center for Civic Leadership, a prestigious national program focused on effective and ethical leadership.  As part of her fellowship, she was Project Manager for the National Affairs Week in Washington for 43 fellows from centers in New York, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh and served as a full-time consultant in economic development, human resources, government affairs, and educational leadership for a diverse array of clients, including Alcoa, Inc., the Allegheny County Chief Executive, the University Office of Economic Development, the Mayor of Pittsburgh, and Propel Charter School.

She has been an elementary school teacher in San Jose and San Francisco and a case manager for a Big Brothers Big Sisters program in San Francisco.

She earned her baccalaureate degree in human services from George Washington University, where she graduated with honors and received Presidential Academic Scholarships for four years.  She received her California teaching credential from San Jose State University.  She also traveled to Brazil, Cuba, South Africa, Kenya, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, and Japan as part of a study abroad program.
